Camera Movements and Emotion

Crane Down: Moves the viewer into the story/scene; into the character's world.

Crane Up: Gives the viewer the feeling of how small/large the obstacle of the character that they're trying to overcome.

Crane High to Low Angle: Makes the character look strong and creates fear; Gives the viewer authority.

Handheld Camera: Creates a feeling of uneasiness or danger.

Quick Pan: Can change the emotional direction of the scene; Reveals something the character may need to overcome

Quick Push In: Creates a feeling of surprise/shock.

Slow Dolly In: Can create tension/helps the viewer become a bit more intimate with the character (either with being uncomfortable or in a way that helps us share emotions).

Slow Dolly Out: Can leave the character looking emotionally lost/ abandoned; Creates an emotion of empathy in the viewer.

Dolly Across: Reveals action/change of emotional direction of a scene.

Glidecam Camera: Can create a ballet/dance feeling; Feels epic or dreamlike.

Handheld Camera: Can create a more edgy/stressful feeling.

Glidecam 360 Reveal: Comes in a sweeps around the character, full-circle; Gives the viewer a feeling like something's going to happen.

Dolly + Zoom: Creates an overwhelming emotional feeling; Also referred to as "out-of-body experience"; Can show what is to happen or what is happening.
