The Matrix - Reflection and Question Answers Part 2

Question 1. In the film, Neo was told that people could not accept total happiness; that people expected a certain amount of misery and suffering. Do you believe this to be true? Why or why not? Give examples.

My answer - I do in fact believe this certain statement is true, since pretty much the beginning of time, everyone in the world has felt some sort of misery and/or suffering since we don't live in a perfect world. If we did, the world (and many people's thoughts) would be much different. For example, if racism was never an issue, and each race could happily live amongst each other without the chaos, people wouldn't have to fight for equality. Everyone would be content and the world would be a much better place (same goes for sexism and homophobia).

Question 2. Neo was referred to as "The One". Was he a Christ-figure? Why or why not? What are some of the parallels?

My answer - I personally believe that Neo was seen as a "Christ-like" figure because, similarly to Jesus being the only one who could die for the world's sins, he was the only one who could break the Matrix. You could even compare the Matrix to humans' sinful nature and the New World Order in the Matrix to the rules and regulations in our own society.
