Sound Design - Dynamic Range and Metering

Dynamic Range is the difference between the softest and loudest signal a device can handle. Dynamic Range affects sound recording in way that makes it possible to either compress the volume (to make the sound louder) or lower the volume for a quieter sound.

- Metering -

Metering is important because it helps the volume and/or loudness of the audio reach the perfect point where it's not damaging to ears and doesn't make the sound seem amateur. This helps in sound recording by showing how loud the audio of a video should be. If the meter runs over level, the sound is piercing to the ears because the audio is much too loud.
