Blogpost 12/12

Because this was the last week we had left to edit our films, I wanted to shift my focus onto planning my next film in between my editing breaks. I know that many people focus a lot on aesthetics and camera-work when they work on film and media (which aren't bad things to focus on). But as someone who enjoys creative writing, I also like to focus on the story of my films and what kind of message/relatability they can give off. I've always enjoyed pieces of media (films, television, books, etc.) where the beginning, middle, and end all relate to each perfectly, whether through hints of upcoming events or just regular foreshadowing. It's always so interesting to imagine what the writer was thinking as they planned the characters' fates; whether a character would die, live, fall in love, make a new friend, discover something new about themself, etc. So this week I looked for videos that broadcast how a writer of a book, a play, a movie, could make their story really stand out to audiences. Below there are a few videos by a creator named Tyler Mowery whose videos highlight important aspects of writing a good story.

    Brainstorming -

       Elements to Focus On:

  • develop a main character that feels like a real person
  • focus on factors that make a character relatable
  • don't force any ideas on an audience; let them think for themselves
  • let the audience answer a fundamental question: what is the story telling?
  • try to have the effects added in make sense with what's going on in the story
  • more to come...
